A Disclaimer and an Invitation
This course design should be considered a concept document. It is our best effort to sketch out a plan that translates exciting ideas into actionable practice.
This course is not yet fully created. These ideas, in this particular form, remain as yet untried. It seems a bit premature to be sharing it in this form. To follow through properly with this process, we should finish a complete draft and then find a few trusted teachers to try it out, preferably in parallel with independent observers and research, so that we can see what works and begin to close the gaps that inevitably exist between our ideas and the lived reality in the classroom. As we understand it, the best-quality curriculum goes through many iterations of this process before it is ready for broad dissemination.
As a student project, in the context of UBC MET ETEC510, we may not be able to follow through with this process. Any teacher who feels inspired to try this approach out should do so. Anyone who has an idea of how to take this forward, please use the feedback form to send us your comments and suggestions.
We have provided a course evaluation plan with questions aimed at getting feedback. Realistically, this course is still a work in progress and will need some further development before it is ready to use even on a trial run.
