We approach algebra here in the constructivist style. Our strategy is to start with understanding data in real-world situations. We work with real-world data examples before we ever introduce algebra, building an understanding of spreadsheets and graphing, exploring with meaning and arriving at algebra, or discovering algebra, only when we have a need for it, as a way of generalizing about arithmetic.
